Pacemaker ICD Checks

Cardiac Device Monitoring

If you have a pacemaker or ICD, your device is working every single day to protect your heart. So are we.

Routine device checks are one of the most important, and most overlooked, parts of living well with a cardiac device. They are not just a formality. They are how your care team stays ahead of any changes, makes sure your device is performing exactly as it should, and catches anything that needs attention before it becomes a problem.

Hope & Grace is the only private clinic in Antigua offering routine pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) interrogations. No travelling off-island, no long waits, no unfamiliar faces. Just expert care in a calm, private setting where you are known by name, not a number

When A Device Check is Recommended

Your cardiologist will recommend regular interrogations based on your device type and cardiac history. You may also need a check if you have noticed any changes, dizziness, palpitations, unusual fatigue, or shortness of breath, or if you are approaching a known battery milestone.

If you have recently moved to Antigua, are visiting from another island, or have simply not had a check in a while, we welcome you. Bring your device identification card and any records from your previous care team, and we will take it from there.

Compatible devices: We currently interrogate compatible Medtronic pacemakers, ICDs, and implantable loop recorders. If you are unsure whether your device is compatible, contact us before your appointment and we will confirm.

Questions You May Have

Is it painful?

Not at all. The wand simply rests over your skin near the device. You will not feel anything during the process.

How often do I need a check?

This depends on your specific device, how long it has been implanted, and your individual heart health. Your cardiologist will advise the right schedule for you.

My device was implanted at another hospital. Can I still come to you?

Yes, provided your device is a compatible Medtronic model. Bring your device card and any available records, and we will take over your ongoing monitoring from there.

I have an implantable loop recorder. Can that be checked here too?

Yes. ILR interrogations are also available at Hope & Grace.
